At Mama Lam's, we are a Mother-Daughter team who produce Malaysian curry pastes & hot sauces, which are all family recipes that are hand cooked in Long Island City, NY. We aim to serve those adventurous eaters and home cooks, who have little time to cook. With our products, you can saute, marinate, or even mix it with any ingredients to create a quick and delicious meal or add to any bland meal.
I was born and raised in New York, with parents who both immigrated to America. My Mom is Mama Lam, who is from Malaysia and my Dad is from Hong Kong. Like most other parents, they encouraged me to finish school and pursue whatever I was interested in. I went into Marketing and worked in the Advertising world for about 5 years before embarking on the entrepreneurial journey. In 2016, my Mom and I launched Mama Lam's, bringing Malaysian curry pastes and hot sauces to market.
Mama Lam was born and raised in Ulu Yam, a town outside of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Ulu Yam is one of those towns where you knew everyone and everyone’s business. When she finished high school, she started working in the city (Kuala Lumpur) for a few years. Then, she had the opportunity to join one of her older sisters in America. In 1985, she arrived in New York City, specifically in Queens.
As a new immigrant to NYC, it was only natural Mama Lam started to get homesick. Growing up, Mama Lam would run down the street in her hometown to get a bowl of curry noodle soup for breakfast or lunch. When she’s in NYC, she definitely can’t do that. So, she decided to call up her mom to get a recipe.
Mama Lam has been cooking up this recipe for friends and families for years before we decided to launch the brand in 2016.
