About

As a lifelong farmer, my husband Bruce runs a cow/calf operation, and a few grain crops. About 11-12 years ago I started selling vegetables. I have been selling at the DeSoto Farmer's Market ever since. We produce 100% of everything we sell. Some markets allow vendors to buy and bring in up to 60% of vegetables from produce row or anywhere else. **However, the DeSoto Farmer's Market is a 100% grown by the farmer who is selling it. So that is why I wanted to be a part of this Market. Our goal is to be a completely sustainable farm. We grow by all natural methods and using organic practices. The practices we implement are designed for the naturally grown or organic farmer even though we are not organic certified. Currently we implement pest management practices, trap cropping, companion plantings, and rotational plantings to reduce pest pressure. We plant cover crops after each season for microbial activity and soil health improvement. We aim for our vegetables to be nutrient dense without the use of commercial fertilizers or chemicals. We purchase beneficial insects to release in the gardens, we do trap cropping, and we only use organic BT or DE. I now have between 60-75 spoiled rotten hens, who live in a 3 acre fenced in area. I wish I could say they are totally free, but we have to protect them from dogs and other predators. Many people have became loyal customers and lifelong friends. So if we can answer questions you may have about our farming practices, please ask. We are very transparent about how we raise our food, We believe it is important to know your farmer and know where your food is coming from and how it is being grown. Lastly, we hope you enjoy our produce and eggs. Thanks for reading..

We grow 100% of all our vegetables using sustainable practices and organic methods. Though we are not certified organic we use many of these practices. We implement pest management practices, trap cropping, companion plantings, and rotational plantings to reduce pest pressure. We implement cover crops after each season for soil health improvement. We want our vegetables to be nutrient dense without the use of commercial fertilizers or chemicals. Any time there are chemicals used for pest management they are all organic such as DT or BT. We have pastured hens. We enjoy selling at the DeSoto Farmers Market for 11 years because they require 100% to be grown by the farmer who is selling it. Most markets do not require this. If we can answer any questions you may have about our farming practices, please feel free to ask. We are very proud and transparent about how we raise our food.

Manager

Cyndi Lou & Bruce Rousan
My husband, Bruce and I do most of the work, however sometimes we hire high school students who want a summer job. Bruce runs a cow/calf operation and does some crop farming. Bruce is a full time farmer. I work at the USDA Service Center as the District Manager, and I am also a farmer. Together we raise a 3 acre vegetable garden and run two high tunnels for extending the growing season. We try to grow just about every vegetable you can name. We also grow some fruit such as Blackberries & Strawberries and sometimes we get lucky and end up with a few bushels of peaches. Farming is the hardest job I have ever had but also the most rewarding. We also have around 60-75 spoiled rotten hens that are pastured on their own 3 acres.
