Joanne’s Dance Extension

Joanne’s Dance Extension has been a cornerstone of dance education since its founding in 1984 by Artistic Director Joanne Zavisa. From its earliest beginnings, Joanne brought a passion for technique, expression, and safe dance through her work and this dedication continues to shine at JDE today.
At its heart, the studio is rooted in traditional teaching methods infused with kinesiology‑based safety protocols to protect young bodies while enhancing strength, flexibility, and artistry . Here, dance is taught in age‑appropriate music and choreography, with an emphasis on individual growth, confidence, and joyful expression.
Open to ages 2 through adult, JDE offers a wide array of classes including
 Kinderdance (ages 2–5), Primary (ages 5–8), Intermediate–Advanced ( ages 8+), and Adult Classes (19+). With over 41 seasons under its belt, JDE includes both recreational and competitive class options, plus a performance team chosen via summer auditions.
Alumni success is a proud legacy: they’ve earned over $5 million in scholarships, performed in touring shows like Wicked, danced with major ballet companies, Disney productions, and gone on to lead in dance education themselves  .
Under the guidance of Miss Joanne—former National President of Dance Masters of America and a regional director for Dance Educators of America—students learn from a talented, certified team including former students who have risen to instructors and choreographers.
