About

My ceramic pieces are an exploration of textures, glazes, materials, and firing methods that capture the essence of nature. I aim to bring earth and the natural world into homes and spaces devoid of such. I seek to draw you closer to our roots and tradition through texture and unconventional beauty.

“ it is Clay, you know, it’s earth. You know, man seems to have come from this earthly material. You come from it and you go back to it. So it is life and death, really. And that’s the beauty of clay.” -Dame Magdalene Anyango Namakhiya Odundo.

I believe humans have an intrinsic connection to earth, we are it, and how I go about making pottery uses this connection by showcasing and appreciating these beautiful materials. I aim for my work to allow people to reconnect with nature, to ground people in the relationship we share with the earth, and remind them what it is to be human. We do not follow a set of rules, humans are organic, always changing, on a spectrum, and I hope my work reflects that.

Gabriel Sharp
Gabriel Sharp, born in 2001 in Hertzliya, Israel, relocated to the United States in 2013. The weathered looks and textures found in Israel and the surrounding areas is what kickstarted the inspiration in his work today. Currently Gabriel’s ceramic work is deeply inspired by the natural world using found materials traditional methods of production and draws from concepts such as Ikebana, Traditional Shigaraki wares, and Wabi Sabi. Notable exhibitions include showcases at the Black Arts & Cultural Center in Kalamazoo (2023), the Summer Ceramics Exhibition (2022), and a solo exhibition titled "Embracing Nature's Touch" (2024) at the Fine Arts Building, reflecting a year-long journey of research and creation. Gabriel's work uniquely intertwines his cultural experiences, artistic vision, and profound connection with the natural world.
