Jackie Knowles is the owner, designer, and creator behind Glasswork Pixie LLC. She learned the art of glasswork from her father while growing up in a small New Jersey beach town, and later combined and honed her affinities for product design and artistic exploration while attending the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering along with concentrations in Fine Arts and Mathematics.
After nearly a decade working in the technology consulting industry while developing Glasswork Pixie on the side, she transitioned to a full-time career of glasswork in 2021, and is grateful to now spend every day bringing her creative ideas to life by constructing products that enhance the lives of others through aesthetic and function.
Jackie prioritizes product quality above all else within Glasswork Pixie. Through her perfection-seeking techniques, extensive QA processes, and use of premium materials, she strives to provide clients with pieces that are not only exquisitely beautiful, but are also built to endure through generations.

Glasswork Pixie's stained glass production process includes 7 key steps:
1. Designing: All of Glasswork Pixie's creations begin as an original design hand-drawn by owner and maker, Jackie Knowles.
2. Cutting: Once the design is finalized, it is traced on to glass using a cutter, and is roughly broken into shape.
3. Grinding: A diamond-bit grinder is utilized to shave each glass piece down to fit the design exactly and remove any sharp edges.
4. Foiling: Sticky-backed copper foil is applied to the edges of each glass piece wherever two pieces of glass meet. This copper foil will give the solder a surface to bind to in a future step.
5. Border Leading: Lead came is cut and shaped by hand to fit snugly against the outer borders of the design, which adds weight and strength to the finished piece.
6. Soldering: Flux paste, which helps solder to bind to copper and other materials, is painted along each copper foil seam and each joint where two pieces of lead came meet. Then a soldering iron is used to melt solder into the seams and between the lead joints, securing the entire piece together.
7. Cleaning / Polishing: The entire piece is washed to remove all flux residue, and then polished and waxed to protect it from tarnish. Lastly, vinyl-coated wire is attached to allow the finished piece to hang.
