Blue Star Farms Procter Center Farm
Vendor
Blue Star Farms in collaboration with The Procter Center farm operate our small farms raising beef (Blue Star) , pork, chicken and eggs (Proctor Center). All of our critters enjoy their lives out on the pasture...the cattle enjoy their pastures of grasses, clover and alfalfa whereas the pigs are able to roam about rooting and wandering in their pasture. The chickens are given free rein to gad about eating the natural bugs and such. All are given supplemental feedings to ensure they are receiving all of their nutritional requirements. In the hot summer when the grasses go dormant the cattle are brought into the corral area where they remain, eating hay that we grow ourselves, until the fall season when the grasses begin growing again. They remain on pasture until the winter sets in and then brought into the corral / barn area where they remain in a covered protected area from the inclement weather. The pigs pretty much follow the same regimen except when the sun gets really hot. Then they can come into a protected covered area which will protect them from sunburn. The chickens spend their days outside hunting and pecking around until sundown when they follow their natural instincts to come into the henhouse to roost for the night. After they "go to bed" the henhouse is closed up for the night to protect them from predators.
Antibiotic And Hormone Free Pastured Free Range
We practice intense rotational grazing which allows the animals to eat the most nutritional parts of the plant and also allows the plants to recover more quickly once they are moved to a different pasture. This practice produces healthier animals, healthier pastures and, by extension, healthier consumers. We are certified in the Beef Quality Assurance and the Best Management Practices programs.
