About

We specialize in heritage and modern grains for local bakeries, breweries, and consumers. Located in Orange County, North Carolina, we farm with a holistic and systems approach that excludes the use of herbicides, fungicides, and synthetic fertilizers. Everything is non-GMO. 2025 will be our 10th year harvesting winter and summer cereals with varieties ranging from Turkey Red Heirloom Wheat to Cateto Orange Flint Corn. We mill our grains year-round on our New American Stone Mill and use our fresh flours to bake delicious baked goods, with the main goal of inspiring our customers to use regional grains.

We sell freshly-ground, stone-milled flours, grits, cornmeal, baked goods, and other products at the Carrboro Farmers Market, Durham Farmers Market, and Cobblestone Farmers Market (Winston Salem), every Saturday, year round. We sell at the Robert G Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market (Colfax), on Saturdays from April through September. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay up-to-date with our latest doings. Production Practices

Non Gmo Use Only Organic Materials Holistic Management Crop Rotation Cover Crops

We are not currently Certified Organic, but our growing practices align closely with organic growing methods and in many cases exceed organic standards. Our number one priority is to produce a high quality grain through the cultivation of healthy soils. Synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides are never used on the soils we grow on. All of our crops are non-GMO. Soil fertility is developed through the use of cover crops, manures, compost, and organic fertilizers. Currently we rotate winter cereals, red clover, buckwheat, millet, sunflowers, soybeans, cowpeas, and corn. We are striving towards reducing the amount of mechanical tillage we now rely upon in order to build soil organic matter, but it is quite difficult without the use of herbicides. As we gain experience and learn from others, we hope to continue developing a holistic system that harbors diversity and accumulates organic matter.
