Orion Honey
Vendor
My son and I started beekeeping in 2010. I grew up on a farm and I wanted to share a bit of that experience with my son. We use most of the money we raise to pay for Seth's ballet training at BalletMet as well as summers programs such as last summer with the Boston Ballet company. We love observing, studying and applying new techniques to our apiaries. We strive to keep bees as naturally as possible. In my youth I worked for a commercial beekeeper in North Dakota. I saw how bees were fed corn syrup and exposed to harmful chemicals. When I started keeping bees I decided not to use these chemicals that were not only dangerous for the bees, but also to people and were often used more than recommended. That is why we don't treat our bees with chemicals. We don't feed corn syrup. We don't heat our honey to high temperatures. We lightly strain our honey to leave beneficial contents such as pollen in the honey. Lastly our honey is produced locally in and around Columbus. We like to think you can taste the difference. But we are firmly commitment to provide natural, local, raw honey so you won't be exposed to those harmful practices you can't taste. Producing natural honey takes more effort, but it is worth it to provide a better product.

Adam Pettis/Seth Pettis
I (Adam) was born in Wisconsin. I was raised on a beef/wildlife farm. My family was fortunate in that much of the food we ate came directly from our farm (beef, venison, poutry, vegetables, fruit, etc.) I received my undergrad degree in social science and agriculture from Minot State university. I went on to get my master's in sociology from the University of Nevada and my PHD in rural sociology from Ohio state. My studies focus on agricultural and natural food provisioning.
Seth was born in Nevada and had a pretty rough go before he was born and for his first year of life. We had to completely change the way we ate in order to ensure he survived. Now he is a healthy young man. He has been beekeeping since he was six. He has been a student at BalletMet since he was seven and dances with the company at the Capital and Ohio theatres in productions such as the Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Giselle, Romeo and Juliet, La Sylphide, Rhythm on the River, etc. This year he was able to attend St. Charles Prep with the help of a generous scholarship. He received a 4.0 average in his first semester.
