moheji offers a traditional Japanese dish Onigiri rice balls. We cook our Japanese short grain rice to perfection, fill with seasonal savory ingredients and wrap in a sheet of crispy nori seaweed.

Our customer favorites are: -Grilled Salmon with roasted sesame seeds (GF) -Tuna Mayo with spicy Gochujang sauce -Tori Miso Soboro (braised ground chicken) with hint of ginger (GF) -Spicy fried Kimchi and Pork belly

We also offer vegetarian options: -Gomoku Gohan (braised Shiitake mushrooms, Hijiki seaweed, Fried Tofu and Carrots) (GF) -Sauteed eggplant with three Miso -Umeboshi Salted Plum (GF)

Onigiri has been a popular grub-and-go dish for Japanese people and recently discovered by visitors to Japan. It is simple, versatile, well-balanced, satisfying and we even reasonably priced them at five dollars. Since our inception in 2025, we have been enthusiastically welcomed by farmers’ market customers all over the city and beyond (Fairmount, University Square, Schuylkill River, Northern Liberties, East Passyunk, Dickinson Square, Chestnut Hill and also Swarthmore). Onigiri is a healthy alternative meal option can cater to a wide variety of tastes.

Currently we participate University Square Farmers Market (36th and Walnut) every Wednesday and Chestnut Hill Farmers Market every Saturday.

moheji is a brainchild of Kaori a Japanese mom who has been living in Philadelphia since 1992 and mother of two teenagers. She provided her family home cooked meals from her home country and Onigiri has been her go to lunch option for the hungry kids. She has been working for the University of Pennsylvania for two decades and noticed a lack of affordable and healthy lunch options for students on campus. She and her husband Vincent have started moheji at University Square Farmers Market and it has been an instant hit for the students and staff.
