Wenatchi Wear Skookum

This design was inspired by the history of and iconic sign in Wenatchee, WA:
A non-native woman created Skookum dolls in the image of Native American people around 1913.
Skookum, a Chinook Indian word meaning special or extra-nice. Skookum Brand Apples registered the original trademark logo illustration in 1914.
Just a few years later, in 1916, there was another change, and the most familiar version, one that depicts a smiling Indian boy with a single red feather, was created in reference to the original Skookum dolls.
Wenatchee Washington’s winking Skookum Indian Sign was created in 1921. Originally atop the Skookum Apple Warehouse and Packing Plant, and now displayed on the roof of Office Depot.
