Lowlands Farm LLC
Vendor
Lowlands Farm, established in 2018, is a diversified vegetable and flower farm located in the beautiful Snohomish River valley. We use organic and sustainable farming practices to care for the land and resources, ensuring that only the highest quality products reach our customers. Stewardship of the farm means not only caring for the land, but also cultivating community and providing good jobs for our farmers and staff. We're proud to be paying a living wage to our staff from the farm's beginning and are committed to being a cornerstone of our community for the long-haul.
Integrated Pest Management Extended Growing Season Use Only Organic Materials Crop Rotation Cover Crops
Our produce and flowers are grown using the highest standards of organic farming practices, but we choose not to be certified Organic at this time. We practice sustainable farming techniques by utilizing integrated pest management, organic soil amendments, cover crops, crop rotation plans, efficient water usage, and lean farm management principles. We're inspired by low-till systems and working to reduce tillage on our farm. By integrating annual and perennial flowers with our seasonal produce, we are able to provide habitat for pollinators and beneficial insects, take our pest management and crop rotations to another level, and build a resilient farm business.
We're proud to bring high quality freshly harvested vegetables and flowers to our community. We value food safety and take measures to ensure food is kept safe from the fields through wash & pack and to our customers. Our flowers are harvested at harvested and temperature conditions to promote long vase life.
Alice Vander Haak
Alice VanderHaak grew up working on dairy and berry farms here in Washington’s Whatcom County. Despite a strong resolve to find a more urban career, her passion for healthy eating and the environment led her right back to farming. Between becoming a Registered Dietitian and completing an MA in Nutrition, Alice spent over 10 seasons volunteering, working on, managing, and co-owning small scale vegetable farms in the PNW before starting Lowlands Farm in 2018. From working on large farms in her early years to well-established northwest businesses like Full Circle Farm, Oxbow Farm, One Leaf Farm and the UW Farm, her diverse work experience in agriculture built a strong foundation for her to quickly start and grow a successful farm business. Her time working for others drives her to create a positive and sustainable work environment for the farm's staff. From the day-to-day manual work of harvesting and weeding, to creative problem solving and establishing efficient systems, to managing budgets and spreadsheets, she finds deep joy and fulfillment in all aspects of producing beautiful, quality produce and flowers for the community.
