About

Ukrainian Pierogies Inc. is a women-owned business founded by Alla Shevchuk after relocating from Ukraine due to the war in 2022. With a passion for preserving traditional Ukrainian flavors, Alla established the company to share authentic pierogies made from natural ingredients, free from chemicals and additives.

Located at 86 Frank St, Strathroy, Alla’s Ukrainian Pierogies & More offers freshly prepared pierogies alongside classic Canadian breakfasts. The business also focuses on wholesale distribution of frozen pierogies and dumplings to local stores, supermarkets, and restaurants.

Beyond food production, Alla actively engages with the community by attending business conferences, women’s entrepreneurial events, and hosting pierogi-making workshops in schools, churches, and nursing homes. The quick preparation of her products makes them an ideal solution for busy families and large gatherings.

Ukrainian Pierogies Inc. represents not only delicious food but also resilience, cultural heritage, and a successful integration story within the Canadian business landscape.

My name is Alla Shevchuk. I am a mother of three children, an entrepreneur, and the founder of Ukrainian Pierogies Inc. and the restaurant Alla’s Pierogies & More. In 2022, due to the war, I had to leave my hometown Zaporizhzhia with my family and start a new chapter in Canada from scratch.

Before coming to Canada, I was an active entrepreneur in Ukraine. I owned a tourism company and founded a women’s business club, where we supported and empowered women in business and community development. This experience gave me valuable skills and a deep understanding of leadership, networking, and entrepreneurship.

My first investment in the Canadian business was only $122. With this small amount, I rented two shelves in a small ice cream shop, where I started selling my first handmade pierogies. Thanks to the incredible support of the local community, my love for Ukrainian cuisine, and the high quality of the products, demand grew very quickly. Soon, I was able to rent a kitchen, and later, I opened my own restaurant where I now serve pierogies, borscht, cabbage rolls, crepes, and other traditional Ukrainian dishes.

Today, my products are available in local stores in London, Ilderton, Woodstock, and Mount Brydges, as well as at farmers’ markets.

In addition to running the business, I am actively involved in community life. I am one of the organizers of the Ukrainian community in Strathroy, where we regularly hold meetings, support each other, and help newcomers. I am also a member of the Rotary Club, the Canadian Legion, and the local library, and I actively participate in various community initiatives.

I especially value my volunteer work and the opportunity to share Ukrainian culture. I organize workshops and presentations in schools, churches, and retirement homes, introducing the local community to Ukrainian food and traditions.

I have had the honor of speaking at Western University, where I presented on business development and multicultural integration in Canadian society. I am also regularly invited to the CCLC newcomer center, where I share my experience with newly arrived Ukrainians on how to adapt, integrate, and build a business.

I am proud that my business has been used for the second consecutive year as a case study for students at Huron University, where they study it as a model of a small business.

In 2024, I was nominated for the Business of the Year award in London, which became an important recognition and motivation for me.

Alongside all this, I raise my three children, who are adapting with me to Canadian life and actively participate in school, community events, and scouting.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me on this journey — your help, kindness, and encouragement have made all the difference.
