I'm a sculptor currently showing original work in St. Augustine, San Francisco, New York, Philadelphia, and in online galleries both in and out of the country. I create polymer clay sculptures depicting foxes, wolves, and other such creatures, but due to the length of time each original, larger sculpture requires, I also make smaller sculptures, which I then create silicone molds of. With these molds, I can create plaster or hydrostone castings that depict the original sculpture exactly in a lightweight and durable form.
Creating these castings/sculptures, which I often paint as well, has enabled me to make my work more accessible to a larger audience by cutting costs, saving time, and ensuring durability! Each sculpt is an original piece, and I find the molding and casting process to also be an artform in its own right. Mixing the silicone, creating a strong and durable mold, and mixing the plaster or hydrostone all takes time (and was quite the process to learn,) but I love that the process has made my original work more accessible. I am consistently creating new pieces to share, and some of my process can be viewed on my Tiktok at @shelbysculpts and examples of my work can be viewed on my website or my Instagram, @shelbyclarkglass.
