Meet Vera, the baker
Growing up in Yugoslavia, in what is now Serbia, Vera was surrounded by incredible bakers in her family—after all, store-bought pastries simply didn’t exist. From an early age, she learned the art of baking alongside her mother, watching in awe as she transformed simple ingredients into mouthwatering treats. Baking, as well as cooking, came naturally to Vera, woven into the fabric of her everyday life.
The recipes Vera uses today have been passed down through generations, each one carrying a piece of her family’s history. Her absolute favorite comes from her great-grandmother Irina, who was born in 1911 in the heart of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Irina’s culinary skills were deeply shaped by the rich, old-world traditions of that time, and it was these skills that Vera grew up learning to perfect. In her household, artisan bakes like strudels, potica, and homemade breads were not just reserved for special occasions—they were served daily, bringing comfort and joy to every meal.
Vera feels incredibly blessed to have grown up with these authentic, time-honored baking traditions, and she is thrilled to share them with others. Her passion is to bring the flavors of old times back to life, offering a taste of history in every bite. Whether it’s the warm, nut-filled strudels or the rich, spiced babka, each pastry is made with love and care, just as it has been for generations.
At the heart of Vera’s bakery is a deep respect for tradition, combined with a commitment to quality and authenticity. Every batch is handmade, small-batch, and freshly baked, ensuring the very best for her customers. It’s her mission to share the warmth and joy of her family’s recipes, and to help others experience the simple pleasures of truly handmade, old-world baking.
We’re so happy you’re here to join us in savoring these timeless treats. Welcome to Vera’s kitchen, where every bite tells a story.
