Roving Rose Handmade

A few years ago, I realized that I didn't want to buy gifts for my loved ones, I wanted to make them something special.

I've been crocheting since I was about 10 years old, so naturally I turned to this craft, as well as knitting, to make something special for my loved ones. My gifts were so well received that I was encouraged to start my own Etsy shop, but I didn't know where exactly to start.

I started writing my own designs in 2016 when I joined a charitable knitting/crochet group here in Virginia Beach. One of our biggest donation drives provides hats and scarves for homeless youth in Hampton Roads. As I was churning out hats and scarves, and learning about garment construction, I started coming up with ideas for adult garments.

In 2016, my shop officially opened when my best friend wanted to purchase a beanie that I'd made, making my own pattern for the first time. Since then, my Roving Beanies have been extremely popular and I've been so overjoyed to give people a product that they love!

As of 2018, I've also been designing patterns for other makers like myself. My Hilltop Scarf and Hilltop Beanie are two patterns that I use all the time, and I'm so happy to share them with other makers! In the past several years, I've developed pretty strong feelings about purchasing patterns rather than taking my chances with free patterns of varying quality. Of course, not all free patterns are created equally, buy I think it's important to support my fellow makers, and pattern purchases are an easy, inexpensive way to do just that!

My business started from making winter accessories, but I also try to focus my business on other products that help my customers to reduce waste in their every day lives. My Weekender Market Bag is a great way to carry produce home from the farmers market, or tote around sandy beach clothes without using plastic bags.
