Seattle Urban Honey
Farmer
Seattle Urban Honey started in 2008 with two hives in the backyard of our Seattle home. Today, we have a total of about 70 hives, some of which are still in our Green Lake backyard. In addition, we have hives in 7 other Seattle locations plus Bellevue, Preston, WA, and two farm apiaries in the Snoqualmie Valley.
Honey from a single hive location is a true sampling of the flora of a place and time. Because of this uniqueness, we sell our honey by harvest date and by the zip code of the hive. As a result, our honey has uniquely local and seasonal characteristics.
Our honey is extracted and bottled without heating so that the full flavor of the floral sources can be experienced. We do not filter our honey so that the natural pollen from the flowers is not removed.
You can find our honey at the University District Farmers Market and the Phinney Farmers Market.
We work hard to maintain healthy productive bees using organic practices. We want our bees to be able to survive the winter as well as to produce enough honey so that we can harvest the excess. Our hive generally stay put in a given location and are not used for pollination contracts.
