Orwashers Bakery

Orwashers has been a mainstay on the Upper East Side of Manhattan for a century and the Cohen Family, which took over the bakery in 2008, continues to bake the European-influenced artisan breads, rolls and pastries that customers have craved since 1916.
The Cohen family works hard to maintain the founders’ commitment to quality while updating the style by incorporating ingredients from regional farms and bread starters developed with local wineries. Orwashers’ bagels, pumpernickel and seeded rye still satisfy discerning New Yorkers, while their Cabernet Rustica, Chardonnay Miche and Craft Ale Bread appeal to contemporary tastes. Dense, dark loaves like their Swiss Health bread recall the bakery’s Hungarian-American roots. Creative challah loaves - plain, raisin-studded, chocolate chunk, or pumpkin flavored for fall - are always highly anticipated by fans of their brief, seasonal appearances.
