At the heart of Windsor Street Montessori lies a journey that began with a single, profound experience—a young child in a new country, sitting before a tray of colorless, processed food, feeling unseen, unheard, and alone. This moment of vulnerability for our Executive Director, Chef Gaby, ignited a passionate commitment within her to ensure that no child would ever feel that isolation again.
We believe in the power of a meal shared, in the warmth of real food on real plates, where every bite is a conversation, and every shared table is a promise that you are understood, valued, and loved.
Our vision is crafted from the understanding that food is more than sustenance—it's a language of love, a path to autonomy, and a bridge to connect us all. We embrace the messiness and beauty of food that touches, blends, and brings us together. In our school, a child's refusal to eat isn't defiance but a whisper of their search for independence, a narrative we listen to with patience and empathy.
Here, food becomes a medium through which children gain an understanding of care—for themselves and others.
Windsor Street Montessori is more than a school; it's a place where every child is seen—not just for who they are, but for who they can become. We weave lessons of care, respect, and empathy into the fabric of our days, teaching children to nourish their bodies and feed their souls and the souls of those around them.
Through shared meals and shared moments, we're raising a generation grounded in kindness, equipped to care for themselves, and inspired to extend their hands in compassion to the world.
The world we envision is one where foundational childhood experiences sow the seeds for a lifetime of nourishment, compassion, and care.
Our purpose is to promote peace through the power of food-forward* Montessori education.
*food-forward: an approach that cultivates a healthy, mindful relationship with our planet through whole-body nourishment and understanding of the interconnectedness between culture, environment, and community.
Food is the thread that weaves us together, bridging differences and nurturing a sense of belonging.
Our school is a sanctuary where coming together at the table symbolizes our desire for a world filled with peace, warmth, and mutual understanding.
Through a food-forward Montessori approach, we provide a gentle invitation for every child to find joy in eating together, no matter their tastes or backgrounds.
Whether it's reimagining tomato soup as "pizza soup" to spark excitement or seeing food justice as representation in school lunches, we believe that when children can see themselves reflected in the food, that space becomes a space of safety. We strive to ensure that every child feels valued, heard, and included.
In addition to enjoying meals as a means of discovery and connection, we involve children in growing, harvesting, and cooking. They become an integral part of our school as they learn about the
regenerative nature of agriculture and compost waste and ultimately become stewards of our planet.
In these shared moments—whether breaking bread or making discoveries in the classroom—our students learn invaluable lessons about empathy, equity, and environmental stewardship, resulting in a community of connection.
At Windsor Street Montessori, there's no such thing as a "kids menu." Instead, there's an open invitation to embark on an educational journey that respects and celebrates diversity. It's an approach that fosters curiosity, confidence, and a willingness to step into another's shoes or, in this case, taste another's cuisine.
We're committed to expanding children's hearts and minds, inspiring them to build a kinder, more equitable world.
This is our way of promoting peace and humanity, one meal at a time, in the hopeful hearts of our young learners.
