Berenstain Shoppe
Material Goods/Craft/Flea/Art
Welcome to our Shoppe! My pops, big bear, and I started this woodshop with a goal to support our local Tennessee ecosystem. We do the whole process! Starting with collecting naturally downed wood in fair conditions to benefit the habitat, chainsaw to useable length, milled using a bandsaw sled, dried using our dehumidifier kiln (coolest part) and finally milled to boards for use in various crafts. I have loved photography for my entire life and now I create frames for my photos. Big Bear is a turner and will use a lathe to make beautiful bowls, cups, pens and so on. Together we are the Berenstain Shoppe and we cant wait to further support the Tennessee wilderness with you!
Integrated Pest Management
All wood that is sourced locally from fair play naturally downed lumber undergoes a dehumidification drying process in our kiln. Once relative humidity is at equilibrium for the species and is consistent for what the lumber will be used for (indoor or outdoor) a "bug run" will be complete. In some wood species, namely spalted pieces, it is custom to see burrow holes (usually black). This comes from Powderpost beetles and it makes for some very unique pieces. This type of kiln fire is without concern for relative humidity, as it has already med equilibrium for the wood in the sense we want it. This is heat only for 24 hours, clock starts when the kiln interior hits 150'F and should level off at 160' shortly thereafter. This will be completed on all lumber that requires the drying process in order to be utilized in our crafts. This includes stock turned into pens, bowls and the like.
Brent DeShazo
Hello there, I'm Brent. Photography was my first love. Nursing was my second. Now woodworking is my third. I have already combined two of my passions in my frames, but I am missing the third. I believe that's what brings me here to this market with y'all, community. Life is pretty crazy. I cannot control what happens to me, however, I can control how I feel about it. Pursuing these passions is what gives me purpose. I am so glad that I have the opportunity to share that, as well as a precious piece of the Tennessee wilderness, with you. Dream big.
