Holly Dudash
Dudash Pottery and Ceramics is a locally owned and operated business in beautiful Bella Vista, Arkansas. Holly enjoys throwing on the pottery wheel most of all, but also creates in hand building techniques.
Holly first learned how to throw pottery in 2005 with a friend, where she would throw clay once a week in the home studio when the weather permitted. In 2008 a move brought the Dudash family to Arkansas.
Pottery was put on the back burner until 2021 when a local gallery was offering wheel classes. Seizing the opportunity to get her hands muddy again, Holly enrolled in a refresher class. Being ambidextrous Holly struggled with throwing that first year. She trained herself to throw lefty even though she was right hand dominant. After several visits to the open studio, she retrained her memory, both muscle and brain, to throw right-handed.
She now enjoys throwing from her home studio, previously a 2-car garage, and completes the entire process there. From drawing her ideas, wedging the clay, forming it into shape on the wheel and then trimming it she enjoys the process of creating.
But it does not stop there. Once a piece is thrown and trimmed, it must be slow dried to avoid cracks and then fired in the kiln to 1800 degrees F. From there it is decided on what/how to glaze, if not already determined. After the glazes are applied, the piece is fired again but to 2200 degrees F. Once it is cooled off, it is inspected, sanded and put into inventory.
You will notice many different styles in Holly's creations. Currently she has several lines of functional pottery and will, upon request, consider custom orders.
Did I mention that Holly works fulltime? She creates all this in her spare time. Stop by her booth for a chat with Holly and her husband Gary next time you are at the market.
