Barnswallow Flowers

Barnwallow Flowers is female-owned and operated by founder and 5th generation farmer, Meredith Nunnikhoven. Her fresh-cut flower operation that is now in its 14th year, based outside Oskaloosa, Iowa on the family farm. Her business specializes in growing and designing with unique flowers using chemical free, sustainable farming practices. Flowers are now places in sustainable, compostable vases that were invented by Meredith as a way to solve glass recycling issues in the United States Vase sizes range from 8oz to 32oz. These unique arrangements and vessels would be sold at Des Moines Farmers Market, along with flower seedlings/plugs during the Months of May and early June. Grow with Barnswallow is a current mission of the flower farm, extending the opportunity for others to grow their own backyard flower cutting garden. Barnswallow would also provide native pollinator friendly seedlings to the DSM community through the form of seedlings, also started at the farm. Barnswallow Flowers takes pride in germinating all it's seed at the farm operation to reduce greenhouse emissions from shipping and packaging companies.

The farm is dedicated to growing the most special flowers outside in the fresh air. Each stem is harvested with care on the week of sale. Harvest time combined with hydration are key to extending vase life for flower lover fans. As a farmer florist, Farmer Meredith takes pride in not only growing her product, but selling only what it grows for local customers without any substitute flowers.
