About

FAHNN is a community grassroots organization since 2020, focused on increasing access to healthy foods for residents living in and around the City of Syracuse's Valley/South Side neighborhoods:

In 2018, the Valley/South Side's only full-service grocery store shut down, leaving residents without access to fresh foods. In 2020, during the Pandemic, a local group of determined residents, tired of being ignored and having no access to fresh food, formed "Food Access Healthy Neighborhoods Now!" And ever since that initial call to our District Councilman, FAHNN continues to fight for the return of a grocery store, while bringing affordable locally grown produce and NYS value added products to a outdoors farmers market, which began in the summer of June 2022 and an indoor winter farmers market which started January 2023. Our market features local farms, live cooking demonstrations, educational workshops, art and craft vendors and more. FAHNN is happy to announce that we will be celebrating our 3rd

Grand Opening on Saturday, June 29th, 8am-2pm, the weekly market will run until Saturday, October 19th, 2024.

Located at the Market Space between Dollar General and CitiTrends.

Manager

Rhonda Vesey
My name is Rhonda S. Vesey, I am the Project Director and Market Manager of Food Access Healthy Neighborhoods Now!.. I started with a burning desire to help make a difference in a community that did not have access to fresh food and I was completely infuriated at statistics that Syracuse, NY was the most Impoverished city in the nation, with the highest percentage of that impoverishment, centered in the Valley/Southside 13205 and 13207 zip codes. My desire was so strong that I became driven over an ugly picture of a place were I grew-up and admired how clean and beautifully green and well kept Syracuse once was, and the Valley Plaza had not one, but two thriving full-service grocery stores. How did we get here? Where is our grocery store? Everyone should have an option to eat fresh food over processed canned food! My fury turned into my passion and as FAHNN continues to build momentum in our community, gaining recognition from community residents and building strong relationships with community partners for 4 years now; I will not stop, I cannot stop and my community is well worth my time and commitment that I have given and I will continue to work just as hard until significant changes are made in the Valley/Southside community of Syracuse, NY. And with great success, FAHNN will take the blueprint and move to the next food insecure, low-income, no-access to fresh food neighborhood and help to build another new model for change.
