Jay Pun is a Charlottesville native who holds a B.M. from Berklee College of Music. While performing with guitar as his primary instrument since he was 13, he has been focusing on learning and playing the phin (a native 3-string lute from Thailand) for the last decade. Jay regularly performs with violinist Morwenna Lasko as a duo and continues to perform, give workshops, and compose together locally and internationally.
In his other world, Jay oversees his family's restaurant group consisting of Thai Cuisine & Noodle House, CHIMM, Iam Thai (inside Dairy Market), and Lime Leaf, all based in Charlottesville. Being a part of this family endeavor led to writing a children's book, "Som Tum and Sticky Rice," about the iconic salad and special varietal of rice, which was released in 2023. Jay is currently working on the follow up to it, continuing to spread awareness and education about Thai culture. Along with outreach about Thai heritage, Jay helps present Virginia’s annual “VeryAsian VA” Celebration showcasing Asian American culture here in central Virginia.
