OZARK TRASH SMACKIN' NOISE CREATOR SO THIS ONE TIME . . . Doug Dicharry resides in SW Missouri, half hour to KS, OK, and AR. His music has reminded fans of the south and could be described as Psychedelic Americana Dance. He is currently touring, teaching, writing, and working on a new album. "Known for an intense stage energy and an outrageous assortment of instruments played per show . . ." -The Joplin Toad Doug's musical journey began in 6th grade band with the trombone. All the while, fueled by his love of rhythm, teaching himself drums by listening to Nirvana's Dave Grohl and playing along on his legs. After his parents relocated to Joplin, Doug found his lifelong friends in an 8 piece ska band called the RowSkabouts. After highschool the ska band disbanded and he found himself bringing a studio project to the live stage. This group was a psychedelic soundtrack band called Freakflag in which Doug mainly handled the drums. In 2002, he met two musicians heavily influenced by Delta Blues and Americana music. Together, the three formed the Ben Miller Band which would tour the world extensively for 13 years. With the help of such bands as ZZ Top, Blackberry Smoke, and Valerie June, they were able to tour coast to coast and even headline their own European tours. The most acclaimed would have been sharing the stage with ZZ Top at the Montreux Jazz Fest. After splitting from the Ben Miller Band in 2015, Doug added the guitar and ukulele to his already vast repertoire and began writing songs. He designed and built the Stompstage to function as his foot percussion. He released his debut album at the beginning of the pandemic all while going back to school for his Bachelors of music performance. Now he has earned his teaching certificate and is teaching music at Joplin High School. His second album, "Practice" was released on May 11th and is available to purchase here or stream on your favorite service. After performing as a 1-man-band for over 5years, Doug finally found some friends to play with. With the addition of Eli Southard (Bass) Jonny Wood (Banjo, Vocals) and Tyler Graves (Piano) the energy level of the live shows has gone to a new level!

It's time for our annual vendor meetings! Meeting starts at 2:30 PM and we meet for an hour until 3:30 PM
Are you:
*a current Empire Market vendor?
*someone interested in being a vendor?
Then this meeting is for you! (it's actually mandatory for current vendors, tbh).
We'll be reviewing our revised Rules & Regulations, SNAP and debit token procedures, and more. There will be time for a Q&A, as well.
Meeting takes place from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm after market.

The Empire Market is a growing food-centric public market. You might have been to something similar in other cities including Kansas City’s River Market, Soulard Market in St. Louis or Pike Place Market in Seattle. Opened in late April of 2018, the Empire Market has 30-35 vendors each week, all selling items they have made or grown themselves. You won’t find any veggies with stickers here!
The Empire Market is an economic and community centerpiece that strengthens and engages the entire city. A vibrant four-season market where you can find the best of what this area has to offer; produce, meats, cheeses, wine, beer, crafters, artisans and any number of other vendors, set up in a collection of permanent and rotating stalls. Starting in late winter of 2023, visitors can also enjoy freshly prepared gourmet food from the Newton Kitchen.
In December of 2016, the Empire District Electric Company donated to the Downtown Joplin Alliance over 33,000 square feet of buildings on 3.34 acres in the center of Joplin. The primary structure, built in 1907, is located at 4th and Railroad. Downtown Joplin Alliance has re-purposed this historic building and its attached 11,000 sqft. garage as the newest “third-place” in Joplin.
The Empire Market is located at 931 E. 4th Street in Joplin, Missouri. It is open from 10am-2pm every Saturday. We have a convenient parking located in the lot directly east of the Market.
