Your vendor type is what identifies you when you go to apply to markets. If a market does not accept the type of vendor you are, you'll usually end up seeing:
Sometimes your vendor type is incorrectly set, to change it visit your Settings page within your Vendor Dashboard. From there you can make the change by clicking on the Pencil Icon next to the item you wish to edit. If your setting for "vendor type" does not have a pencil icon, as shown below:
that is because you have already applied or attempted to apply to a market. So as not to confuse market managers, the system will not let you edit this field after you have applied.
