Bee's Bread Heirloom Farm

Farmer

About

We are a small farm worked mainly by me (Mom) and my two young sons. My main goals in market farming are to provide healthy produce for my community and to teach my children what it takes to produce food, sell that food, and to value the effort it takes to earn a wage. I focus mainly on heirloom varieties and a portion of our planting every year is done strictly to nurture the pollinators and the soil.

Integrated Pest Management

I strive to foster an ecosystem that can self-regulate as much as possible when it comes to pest and disease management. I do this by rotating my crops, building long term soil health, monitoring so that problems are caught early, and planting many different varieties of each crop to mitigate incidence of those problems in the first place. I do not grow organically, though the majority of my practices do meet USDA organic standards. I choose to focus more on the sustainability of my farm from environmental, financial, physical, and personal perspectives. Every year, I plant as much food and habitat as I can for our pollinators, which is why I named the farm after my favorite pollinator plant: the unassuming and tenacious Borage, aka Bee's Bread.
